Weight Watchers and Swimming

First off... I don't know what happened to my last blog post. Blogger has been having so many issues lately... but I know I have blogged since 5/19!

Life is finally slowing down and it's starting to feel like summer!

School was out on May 28, but I started teaching summer school on May 31. I will do summer school until June 17, so it's only 3 weeks. And the money is great for only 3 hours a day.

My birthday was great. I ate a lot, but didn't go too crazy. And I really enjoyed myself. It was worth taking a diet detour.

But now, it's back to business.

I am officially back on Weight Watcher's as of yesterday. My bff and I joined the online program together. I still plan on drastically reducing my carb intake (because I know it works), but I figured that Weight Watchers could definitely give me a tracking system and accountability. I mean, it's definitely worked for me in the past.

I have to admit that I like the new program. Having all fruits and veggies as zero points is great. It also looks like you are able to bank your activity points, too. All I know is that I am willing to give it my best shot this summer.

Another HUGE thing has happened that might help me with my weight loss. I am learning how to swim!

On Friday, my bff went to the pool with me and the kids and started trying to help me learn to swim. Before Friday, I have always been TERRIFIED of water. As long as my feet can touch and I am in control I am okay, but otherwise I am so scared of drowning. Well, on Friday I learned how to float on my back... all by myself! No floaties, lol!

And let me tell you, the feeling was exhilarating! So yesterday, I went back to the pool to practice some more.I am now able to swim on my back, and I can go backwards and forwards, lol. I don't know if this is really counted as swimming, but hey, it was awesome for me! And such a workout! After doing 1.5 laps, my arms, legs, and abs were so sore! But I felt so great. It's definitely going to be something I try to improve on this summer!

I feel very positive right now, and I think that this summer will definitely be a time to rest and focus on me. It's about time!

Good for you in learnig how to swim! Hey, as long as your feet don't touch the ground you're swimming! I just rejoined WW as well. I needed some structure. I'm also loving zero point fruit. Can you say Peaches? Good luck to you!

I love swimming for exercise. I also like aquafit, if you enjoy being in the water it might be worth looking into. I was on WW sounds like it's changed a lot. I recently decided to join TOPS cause it fit my budget better but I still use the old WW books to track my food. Hope that you get to relax a little after summer school is done.

I love swimming! What a great thing for you to be learning! I am so happy for you, it really is one of the best forms of exercise out there.

I've been considering joining Weight Watchers but it seems awfully expensive. Do you really think it's worth it? I hear mixed reviews...

Great blog Hollie. I've just lost 77 lbs (35 kg), and I am sharing my experiences in my blog. It would be great to have some contact with eachother :)

To get abs in know time you need to do more effective workout routines. A good workout routine should only last 20 to 30 minutes. Working out more than 20 to 30 minutes a day is over working your body. A routine that is fast pace is great for burning stomach fat. You see a lot of them exercise routine on video they are slow pace exercise routines. It might sound like a tough job to start doing fast pace exercises but you have to think what you will benefit from doing a fast pace exercise routines.

I know what you're going through. Every day seems to be a new adventure with Blogger lately. I haven't been able to comment on my own blog for the last two days.

That is amazing! I was fortunate enough to learn to swim when I was little, so I've always enjoyed it. BUT, the bonus is that you are expending energy and its low impact on your muscles so its GREAT for you! I live in Arizona, so pools are very common around here as are pool parties. The summer time is great to get out, get some sun, get some exercise and GRILL! Good luck on getting progressively better (with no floaties heehee) and being able to swim around. I wish I could get over my fear of heights the way you were able to grab on to the water. :) I also have a weight loss blog, if you are interested in checking it out. http://thinfullyinspired.blogspot.com

Trying new things can sometimes be exactly what you need to see progress. I think it's so great that you did something that you used to fear and ended up enjoying it.

Hi, Hollie! It's great to see that you have a positive outlook on this summer. I'm finding that I draw more inspiration from healthy lifestyle promotion, more so than weight loss promotion. I actually stopped watching Biggest Loser because I didn't agree with the show's principles. I found a new show that I think aligns with your message in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and I hope to see more media advocating healthy lifestyle changes.

(Here's an episode so you'll know what I'm talking about: http://abc.go.com/shows/extreme-makeover-weight-loss-edition/episode-detail/alex/788950)

Hollie,

I want to congratulate you on returning to Weight Watchers. I know so many friends that have been very successful losing weight with their program. Our bodies crave fruits and vegetables more than just about any other food because we tend to get far fewer of them than we need. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the USDA both recommend at least 3 to 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day! With a little daily planning and a bit of effort in snack preparation, you can make these nutritious foods available daily. I also want to commend you in starting up swimming. It is a great aerobic exercise for burning fat.

it is great that you are learning to swim. I've been swimming twice a week since Feburary and I find it great.

Keep us posted!

Hollie - I FEEL YOUR PAIN! DUDE I am TERRIFIED of the water! Seriously terrified. I put my head under and I panic! Now I can't quite explain why or how I can get on boats, and even watercraft like jet-skis etc. I'll stand in pools, the whole like. But if my head goes under - if even for a minute? FORGET ABOUT IT!!

Although mind over matter is crazy thing I should say. One time when I was 21 I was in Australia for school and I FORCED myself to get in the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel. After A WHOLE LOT of water ingesting, and a near death experience, I forced myself to get through the experience.

Weight loss is no different. I dropped 75 pounds and am finally starting to feel comfortable in my own skin.

And on that note, are you watching Extreme Makeover Weightloss Edition Monday nights on ABC? That whole show focuses on people over 300 pounds conquering their fears and dropping the weight. Check it out. Its insanely inspiring! Keep it up and can't wait to hear how your journey goes.

I learned to swim at an early age but I still say if you can float you can swim. When I teach people to swim, the first thing I do is teach them to float. After that, everything is cake!

Seriously, if you can float on your back you will never drown. You can just sit there and wait for someone to rescue you LOL!

Recently, I moved to Hawaii and now I exercise by snorkeling for hours. I discovered I could breathe and swim and I was hooked! Now when I need to lose weight I just follow a healthy diet and dive into the water

Congrats on learning to swim.

(Monday nights on ABC at 10pm/9c). The last episode had a guy named Dana who accomplished a pretty amazing swim! Check it out, it might inspire you with your swimming journey! http://tinyurl.com/68q39mk

Great Info!!
While I was on weight watchers I would take some fresh green beans, steam them, add garlic and soy sauce and tofu. That made a REALLY good lunch (to me)
You could also have a piece of grilled chicken (or boiled) with a nice vinaigrette salad.

How have you enjoyed Weight Watchers? I've worked with some people who have found it to be extremely helpful in some ways and not in others.

I hope you continue to do well. Your Blog is fun to read.

I stumbled across your blog, and I must say, I really do enjoy reading it. I too am a teacher, and I fully understand the pitfalls that come with teaching, especially when it comes to staying healthy. I have gained so much weight since I started because it seems as if we are in a constant run all the time, grabbing food when we can. Keep up the good work!
